Cool post. For the sake of tossing wood on the argument fire, here’s one answer to a question that came up recently re: sea level difference at the Isthmus of Panama. “The Pacific side is about 20 cm higher than the Atlantic side... the water on the Pacific side is less dense... prevailing weather and ocean conditions [and] ocean currents play a significant role... Because of the Earth's rotation, currents tend to pile up water on one side.” But if rotation is a factor, any pile-up should be on the Atlantic side, no?

If the canal was a level ditch, wouldn't the water find it's own level, and we'd need no locks? Far more fascinating is this theory of everything: Big Bang + a bazillion years of evolution and adaptation = infinite and interdependent complexity ; )
